By 2023, Dearborn, MI will be home to a new 4.5 million-square-foot product campus at the site of the current 1950's-era Ford Research and Engineering Center.
Where the old building has been technologically limited, the new campus will have 10-times faster Wi-Fi and better connectivity. More than simple tech capability, the campus will spur employee creativity by providing a better work environment, which includes more natural lighting, and green spaces outdoors with bike trails and walking paths between buildings.
Ford is also committing to environment with this new facility. The company will be adhering to the guidelines for LEED Gold certification, and hopes, at minimum, to become LEED Silver certified. By utilizing geothermal heating and cooling, superior insulation, and more, the new buildings should use about half as much energy as current ones.
Construction on the project begins this month.
